The Honorable David J. Burgio, Mayor
North Tonawanda City Hall
216 Payne Avenue
North Tonawanda, NY 14120

October 31, 2003

Dear Mayor Burgio:

Wildlife Watch, Inc. is an animal protection organization that educates the public about the mismanagement of wildlife by state and federal wildlife agencies, and the destruction of wildlife and ecosystems in the name of sport hunting and game management.

It has come to our attention that the Tonawanda Town Council is looking into ways to solve the problems with deer living in close proximity to the private property within the town limits. From what we’ve learned through media reports the main problem seems to be with deer eating ornamental bushes and shrubs

We are happy to hear that the Council has discussed non violent, non lethal methods for controlling the deer population. As a wildlife protection organization, we promote natural deer deterrents such as planting trees and shrubs that are not palatable to deer, as well as the humane chemical sterilization of deer as a way to control their numbers.

If we can be of any assistance to you in your quest for humane solutions to deer control, please do not hesitate to contact us at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Joe Miele
