The Precious Few
But each year,
a few,
a precious few,
of these misled or ignorant “heroes”
look into the soft brown eyes
of an orphan fawn
whose mother
they have just slaughtered
and, at least for one fleeting moment,
or maybe even longer,
they think,
“What in the world have I just done?”
