BEAR HUNTING IN NEW JERSEY

  • by

THE MOST IMPORTANT PHONE CALLS YOU CAN MAKE FOR THE BEARS THIS YEAR:

Make your voices heard LOUD AND CLEAR!

Please call and keep calling:

Acting Governor Richard Codey 609-292-6000

Senator Jon Corzine 609-826-5100

(Note: Corzine is at the top of the Democratic Party in NJ and as the Governor-Elect, he has the power to halt this bear hunt. He has already come out against the hunt on a debate held on September 20, 2005. Thank him and ask him to persuade Codey to stop the hunt!)

POINTS:

Let them know that you are opposed to the bear hunt.

With roughly 2.2 million people living in bear country, a few hundred complaints is very low, especially when they are mostly related to garbage issues. Most people are living among bears in harmony.

We have tools that can handle bear conflicts including, but not limited to proper garbage containment, bear proofing, public education and aversive conditioning.

The population growth rate can be dramatically lowered if bears have no access to unnatural food sources such as garbage and bird feeders.

Hunters, Division of Fish and Wildlife, and the Fish and Game Council are the only ones demanding a bear hunt. Fear sells. Dispel the myths.

Bear hunts are recreational trophy hunts being sold as public safety. Don’t buy it. The top issues affecting New Jersey are wages, property tax, health care, war, education, corruption, economy, and the environment. The public also wants the bears protected.

The Division of Fish and Wildlife should not be moving bears all over the state, especially in areas where bears do not usually frequent. They are doing this to induce fear and get support for a bear hunt.
