A Wisconsin man was hospitalized following an approximately 18-foot fall out of a tree stand Saturday night.

According to Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson, dispatch received reports of a fall in rural Viroqua around 7:30 p.m.

Responders arrived and flew the hunter, a 55-year-old man from Twin Lakes, to Gundersen Health System. The man’s hunting partner found him after he did not return to his vehicle.

The fall happened on private property in the Town of Jefferson and remains under investigation.

Sheriff Torgerson says he wants to remind the public to always use a fall-restraint device every time you hunt from an elevated position off the ground, regardless of the type of tree stand you use.
