At around 10:25 on Saturday night, the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to a gunshot wound incident that occurred several miles southeast of Stanton involving a 17-year-old Clarkson boy who was hunting racoons with an adult family member.
According to Sheriff Mike Unger, the youth was accidentally shot by his own firearm while exiting a pickup, was later transported to Faith Regional by Norfolk Rescue where he underwent surgery and was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating and Unger said the incident appears to have been unintentional and without malice.
