A father and son turned themselves in for poaching elk and other species after an investigation by Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, the DNR said Friday.
An anonymous tip in September led officers to Val Vogelheim, 56, and Josh Vogelheim, 26, who initially denied wrongdoing.
The pair turned themselves in to the Presque Isle County prosecutor in July. They were charged with illegally hunting elk, deer, and turkey. Frozen game — including a snowy owl, a sharp-shinned hawk, and a barred owl — were also found at a camp in southern Presque Isle County.
At a second camp, DNR officers found evidence of criminal activity by multiple people dating back several years, according to a DNR press release.
Conservation Officers Sidney Collins and Paul Fox, involved with the investigation of the Presque Isle County camps, expect additional arrests.
