The Marion County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday identified the body of a Des Moines duck hunter who was found dead in Lake Red Rock as 37-year-old Matthew Lew Bettes.
Sheriff’s officials, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Knoxville and Knoxville Rural fire departments had begun searching for Bettes at the request of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office around 7 p.m. Saturday, a news release from Marion County Sheriff Jason Sanderholdt said.
A friend who reported Bettes missing to Des Moines police Saturday was not sure which body of water Bettes’ boat was on when it began taking on water, the release said, but Marion County deputies were able to determine Bettes’ car had passed a license plate reader in the county and then found it parked at a boat ramp on Lake Red Rock.
