At a case heard remotely by Justice of the Peace Terry Steenson earlier this month in St. Thomas, William Gatto pleaded guilty to hunting without a licence and failing to produce his possession and acquisition firearms licence while hunting with a gun.
Gatto was also placed on probation for two years, prohibited from possessing hunting equipment or wildlife and being in the presence of anyone who is hunting. His hunting licence was suspended for five years.
Gatto, who has “previous hunting convictions,” according to the Ministry of Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, was stopped by a conservation officer conducting a turkey hunting patrol in Elgin County on April 25, 2021. He was walking out of a field with a loaded rifle in the company of two other hunters who had shotguns.
