Dear Mr Miele,

I pray you and I are both extinct before recreational hunting becomes extinct. You apparently have never gone hunting and know nothing about the sport other than what you have read or have been told. You might try getting out of New York and come west where the sky is crystal blue, the air clean, and go on a hunt.
I grew up with men hunting and my husband hunts. My family and friends have always enjoyed the game and fowl brought home from these hunts and I pray as long as my husband is able, he will continue to bring home, excuse the pun, the bacon.

Not every hunter is out there to just kill a bird, animal, etc. There are people who depend on the kill of animal or fowl for the meat to feed their families. So I would suggest you, leave your little concrete jungle and come see for yourself how the populous lives……at least our crime and death rates are not as high as yours….why don’t you concern yourself more with the human life that is being destroyed in your state. And before you say anything about gun control…..the gun is not what kills but the person behind the gun!

By the way my freezer is full of quail and we plan on having our friends over which by the way some do and some don’t hunt but they sure enjoy the spread. You stick with your vegan diet and enjoy your life in New York.

Dear Cindy:

Thanks for contacting me in regards to my work with the Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting. I would like to address some of the things you have written

While it is correct that I have never gone hunting, I know more about it than just “what I have been told.” I’ve seen the remains of gut shot animals that hunters failed to recover. I’ve helped rescue wildlife that had been injured by a poorly placed shot. I have helped people confront hunters who were trespassing upon their posted property. I’ve spoken to a woman who has had a bullet shatter the windshield of a car she was driving, and I have had enough personal experience with animals to know that they value their lives and do not want to be harmed.

Not every hunter is out there to just kill a bird, animal, etc. There are people who depend on the kill of animal or fowl for the meat to feed their families.

I would suggest that if their budgets are so tight, instead of spending their money on weapons, ammunition, hunting equipment, butcher fees, hunting licenses, etc. they should dedicate that money toward food.

So I would suggest you, leave your little concrete jungle and come see for yourself how the populous lives……at least our crime and death rates are not as high as yours….

The crime rate is quite low in New Paltz, NY – located about 100 miles north of New York City. I’d assume that it favorably compares to any small town in America. There’s no “concrete jungle” in New Paltz, but plenty of farm stands, local stores and friendly people.

why don’t you concern yourself more with the human life that is being destroyed in your state. And before you say anything about gun control…..the gun is not what kills but the person behind the gun!

There are many “good causes” that should be supported, and the protection of wildlife is one of them. That’s the one I choose to focus my energy upon. If you would like to protect human life as your primary goal, I suggest that you do that.

Thanks! I do enjoy my vegan diet and lifestyle. What I enjoy most is that no one was slaughtered to provide my food.

Peace,
Joe
