Missing hunter found dead in Bankhead National Forest

The search has ended for a 70-year-old hunter last seen early Thursday morning in Bankhead National Forest.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel Whittaker was found dead on Friday after not being seen since Thursday around 4 a.m. near the Pine Torch Church within the forest.
His family told the sheriff’s office he was supposed to come home around noon on Thursday.
Crews located Whittaker’s car around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The cause of death remains under investigation.
