A hunting guide is dead after being shot near Halfway, Oregon on Nov. 10.

According to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 7:53 a.m. about a mile and a half north of Highway 86 on private property along Fish Creek.

The shooting reportedly happened when two hunters and their guide got out of a side-by-side after they spotted a herd of elk.

According to the BCSO, as the men got out of the vehicle one of the hunters, a 73-year-old Beaverton man, chambered a round and his gun went off and hit their hunting guide, a 62-year-old Halfway, Oregon man in the back.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the BCSO.
