A hunter in Sanilac County died after his hunting blind caught fire on the opening day of firearm deer season Wednesday morning.

Just after 10:30 a.m., the Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call reporting that a man found his grandfather severely burned and deceased by his hunting blind in the 4600 block of Freiburger Road in Argyle Township.

The grandson of the victim reported hearing some loud pops while out in the woods hunting. He believed that it was his grandfather who was shooting a deer.

The grandson then noticed smoke in the area and found the hunting blind on fire. He found his grandfather severely burned and deceased just outside the blind.
